🦃 Thanksgiving Poll!
Thanksgiving is on November 24th. How do you celebrate? So far, 44.8% celebrate a big meal as a family tradition, while 24.1% don’t celebrate and treat it like any other day. In a smaller group, 3.4% don’t celebrate because they feel it glorifies the conquest of Native Americans; however, 27.6% choose to celebrate a traditional Thanksgiving out of gratitude.

📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:

1) Do you remember when your driver’s ed instructor told you to put your vehicle in park before getting out? Neither did a Los Angeles Police Department officer on Thursday. Jumping out of the police vehicle at the Westfield Topanga Mall to catch a shooting suspect, he forgot to put the cruiser in park. It rolled backward and “nearly hit other vehicles as a second officer tried to get back inside the car.” (ABC)

2) A bicyclist in his 50s lost his life Thursday night in a hit-and-run collision. Reportedly, the cyclist was “riding in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Hauser and West Adams boulevards” when a vehicle collided with him. The driver fled. (KTLA)

3) In a short two years, the Los Angeles Times will close its printing plant on Olympic Boulevard. We learned on Friday that the paper will remain in print, and the Southern California News Group will handle the details. There’s no word what will happen to the downtown L.A. facility or its workers. (L.A. Taco)

4) Niku X will open in December on the second floor of the Wilshire Grand Center downtown. Diners can look forward to “a menu of modern Japanese cuisine with a French influence.” Already confirmed are the presence of Shin Thompson, a Michelin-starred chef, as well as the availability of certified Japanese A5 Wagyu premium cuts. (FSR Magazine)

5) L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti wants you to replace your lawn with something that needs less water. We learned on Thursday that the Department of Water and Power is accepting applications for significant financial incentives to that end. “Approved applications will receive $5 per square foot, a 67% increase from the previous $3-per-square-foot incentive. The payment is capped at $25,000 per residential property.” There are a few limitations: For example, you need to rip out “at least 250 square feet of grass” unless you can show that you are taking out the grass in your entire but smaller landscape. (L.A. Times)
