Inmate Missing From LA County Conservation Camp: Authorities

He is serving 16 years for gun crimes and vandalism, according to authorities. The camp provides incarcerated hand crews to fight fires.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA — State corrections officials are searching for an incarcerated man who walked away from Acton Conservation Camp in Los Angeles County, authorities said.

Staff discovered during a head count around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday that Jessie Meza was missing, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

The 38-year-old has black hair and brown eyes, is 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs 159 pounds, authorities said. He was last seen wearing gray shorts and thermals, white tennis shoes and a state-issued orange jacket, according to the department.

He is serving 16 years for assault with a gun with an enhancement for use of a firearm and possessing a gun as a felon, as well as vandalism, authorities said.

Anyone who sees Meza or has information about his whereabouts is asked to call police, 911 or Special Agent Brian Ellis at 951-232-3696, according to the department.
