LOS ANGELES -- The investigation was continuing today into the discovery and seizure of a ``large'' amount of fireworks at a warehouse in the south Los Angeles area.

The fireworks were discovered Wednesday in the building in the 900 block of East 61st Street, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

``Earlier today, the LAPD's Bomb Squad responded to the 900 Block of East 61st St. for a large firework seizure,'' the LAPD said late Wednesday in a statement.

``Our officers are carefully removing and preparing these dangerous materials for transport, remaining committed to keeping our community members and local businesses safe,'' the statement said.

On Thursday morning, the LAPD reported that the items had been removed, but other details were not available for release.

According to ABC7, what appeared to be hundreds of pounds of illegal fireworks were found in boxes at the location. It was unclear if any arrests were made in connection with possession of the fireworks.

Two years ago in a south Los Angeles neighborhood, a botched detonation of illegal fireworks while being removed by the LAPD resulted in an explosion that injured several people and damaged buildings and vehicles.
