  1. One of California's top utility regulators, who oversees Pacific Gas and Electric Co., announced her resignation yesterday. Marybel Batjer, 65, has served through four different administrations. 2. Rep. Karen Bass has officially announced her candidacy for Los Angeles Mayor. The Democratic primary is on June 7 for general elections on November 8, 2022. If elected Bass, a 7-term Congresswoman, would be the second Black mayor of LA. (Ebony Magazine)
  3. Mayor Garcetti and local politicians broke ground On the Weingart Towers in LA's "Skid Row." Scheduled to open in 2023, the development will provide housing for 382 currently homeless Angelinos. 4. The long-awaited vote to institute an indoor vaccine mandate in Los Angeles was delayed after Councilman Buscaino withheld his vote on Wednesday. Among his reasons: it's still unclear which agency would enforce the proposed regulation, and he worries the burden would fall onto essential workers. The measure will come to another vote on October 5. (LA Weekly)
  5. Meanwhile, thousands of employees and students in the nation's second largest school district remain unvaccinated. All LA school district employees and students over 12 must be fully inoculated by October 15, just over two weeks away. (The Bakersfield Californian)
