Man, 24, Suspected Of Stabbing His 7-Year-Old Brother: DA
The child was hospitalized in critical condition following the stabbing at his family's Whittier home.
DOWNEY, CA — A 24-year-old man suspected of stabbing his 7-year-old brother in their Whittier home was charged with attempted murder Tuesday.
According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Cristian Gutierrez stabbed his brother during an argument on the night of May 9 in their home on the 9500 block of Ben Hur Avenue. The child was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Gutierrez is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
“My heart goes out to this innocent child and his family during this incredibly challenging time,” District Attorney Gascón said. “The trauma and emotional impact of such an incident is immeasurable, especially when it involves a member of your own family. Our office’s goal is to ensure that the responsible individual is held accountable for their actions, and also to ensure that the vulnerable among us are protected from such harm.”

The attempted murder charge includes allegations that he inflicted great bodily injury and used a knife during the crime, according to the District Attorney's Office.
Gutierrez faces life in prison if convicted.
