LOS ANGELES, CA — A man was found dead Thursday in the wreckage of an early-morning fire that broke out in a vacant commercial building near the USC campus, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire was first reported after 2 a.m. at a vacant two-story commercial building at 806 W. Adams Blvd. Battling heavy flames, it took about 100 firefighters two hours to extinguish the blaze, the LAFD said.

After the fire was put out, crews found the body of a middle-aged man in the building. They combed through the building and found no other victims, according to the LAFD.

A large volume of water had accumulated in the building and needed to be pumped out, firefighters said.

The Medical Examiner will work to identify the man and determine his cause of dead, firefighters said.
