- A 29-year-old man went missing on March 16. He was located deceased “in the hills above the Griffith Park merry-go-round” with his dog by his side. The pet was found “tired and hungry” but alive. Now, the LAPD is “waiting for the coroner's office to confirm a cause of death.” (NBC, Patch)
- Do you remember when the U.S. announced it would take in up to 100,000 Ukrainian refugees? However, we learned Friday that those already living here have a difficult time bringing family members in. One example is a man living in L.A. County who realized “that there is no program in the United States to relocate my family.” The State Department is still looking “into different avenues for displaced Ukrainians.” Family members are “not sure why there’s still no formal process set up for Ukrainian refugees.” (LAist)
- Public health officials are warning that new COVID-19 cases are no longer declining in the county. We learned Friday that “authorities are monitoring wastewater for coronavirus biomarkers for clues about what to expect next.” Right now, there’s an increase “in virus concentration in mid-March in the Western San Fernando Valley, central LA County, and West Los Angeles. (Patch)
- Are you ready for a heatwave? The National Weather Service L.A. reported Friday that this coming week we might see “unseasonably hot temps. Currently, Thursday through Friday looks like the peak heat, when we may break 95 degrees over portions of L.A. County and warmer interior valleys.” Hopeful residents asked if this was an April Fools’ joke, but the service responded that “heat is no joking matter.” (@NWSLosAngeles)
- Did you see folks walking around the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday? These were likely participants of the ‘Walk for Wishes,’ which is a Make-A-Wish fundraiser. The organization “grants wishes and provides unique experiences for children suffering from critical illnesses.” This is the first time since 2019 that the fundraiser came back to L.A. (KTLA)
