Man Hospitalized After Exchanging Gunfire With Police, Barricading Himself: LAPD

A man was hospitalized after exchanging gunfire with police and barricading himself inside a home, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A man who exchanged gunfire with police before barricading himself inside a home in Eagle Rock has been arrested, police said Saturday.

Officers responded at around 1:45 p.m. Friday to a home on the 5000 block of North La Roda Avenue, just south of Colorado Boulevard, regarding a man who has having "suicidal ideations and was armed with a firearm," the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Officers spotted the man on the front porch and stayed at their vehicles while they spoke to him. The man shot in the direction of the officers and "there was an exchange of gunfire," police said.

The man went into a home as additional officers were called in. The man initially refused to surrender, but was ultimately taken into custody, police said.

He was transported to a local hospital. His handgun was recovered at the scene. No officers were injured, police said.
