Man Interrupts Burglars During LA Break-In

After they were caught breaking into a home in Cheviot Hills, the burglars fled, leading police on a chase, according to the LAPD.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A resident in Cheviot Hills interrupted a group of burglars breaking into his home, leading to a police chase and manhunt in West Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Police Department announced Thursday.

The break-in happened Wednesday around 2:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department. A man was in his home when he heard the sound of shattering glass and went downstairs to find himself face-to-face with a trio of men dressed in dark clothes standing outside his shattered window.

"The suspects noticed him and immediately fled towards the front of the property. During the investigation, officers obtained a photo of the suspects’ vehicle from a witness," the LAPD said in a written statement. "A few hours later, officers observed a black Cadillac Escalade with the matching license plate from the witness photo."

When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspects fled, triggering a chase that ended when the Escalade crashed into the back of a parked box truck in the West Los Angeles area., according to the LAPD.

"Following the crash, the driver was taken into custody, while the three other occupants fled on foot," according to the LAPD. "A perimeter was set up, and with the assistance of the Metropolitan Division's Canine Unit, the remaining suspects were located and arrested for residential burglary."

Police arrested four Los Angeles men, including 29-year-old Jonathan Lopez on suspicion of felony evading, 20-year-old Keilan Edison on suspicion of attempted residential burglary with a person present, 19-year-old Kai Campbell on suspicion of attempted residential burglary with a person present, and 18-year-old Auston Grimes on suspicion of attempted residential burglary with a person present.
