Man With Machete Shot By Police Outside Crypto.com Arena After Charging At Officers: PD

The man was in surgery Sunday afternoon, police said.

LOS ANGELES — A man was shot by police Sunday outside Crypto.com Arena after he charged officers with a machete, according to authorities.

Officers responded around 9:20 a.m. to a report of a person suspected of assault in the area of Olympic Boulevard and Figueroa Street, police said. They arrived to find a man armed with a machete, who advanced toward them and then fled south in a Dodge Challenger, according to police.

After leading the officers on a short chase, the man exited the vehicle on Figueroa Street south of 12th Street, charged the officers with the machete and was shot, according to police, who said the man was in surgery Sunday afternoon.

Figueroa Street between Olympic and Pico boulevards was expected to remain closed to traffic into Sunday evening due to the ongoing investigation, police said. Drivers were advised to avoid the area.
