Man Shot By LAPD After Allegedly Stabbing Himself Is Identified

LOS ANGELES, CA — A man who was shot by police after allegedly stabbing himself with broken glass a few blocks west of MacArthur Park was identified by authorities Sunday.
At about 7:15 a.m. Friday, officers responded to a call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon suspect near the 800 block of South Vermont Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The call indicated that the suspect, later identified as 35-year-old Freisman Sanchez, had broken the windows of a business and was stabbing himself with pieces of broken glass.
Officers unsuccessfully attempted to communicate with him, and as more officers arrived, Sanchez began to run toward the officers and at least one officer shot and wounded Sanchez, police said.

Sanchez was taken into custody and rushed to a local hospital, where he was treated for multiple gunshot wounds and self-inflicted stab wounds, according to the LAPD.
He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, and booking was pending medical treatment, authorities said.
