Man Survives Being Dragged For Blocks By Hit & Run Driver

LOS ANGELES, CA — A man standing outside his car was struck by another car and dragged several blocks until he fell free and dragged himself to a house for help, authorities said Monday.

It happened about 11:30 p.m. Sunday at Washington Boulevard and Fourth Avenue, Officer Mike Tirella of the Los Angeles Police Department's West Traffic Division said.

Two women were inside the car and the man was standing outside the car with the door open looking for something in the front seat when he was struck by a car and became hooked on the front wheel well, Tirella said.

"He was dragged for blocks until the car turned onto a side street that was a dead end and slowed down and the victim fell off," the officer said. The victim crawled to a nearby house to ask for help.

The man is lucky to be alive, Tirella said, but "he's got nasty road rash."

The victim also suffered facial injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene, Tirella said. It was described as a gray sedan with passenger-side damage.
