Men Killed Outside Elementary Schools In LA County: Police

The two killings outside separate schools happened less than an hour apart, police said.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA — Men were shot and killed overnight outside separate elementary schools in southeast Los Angeles County, according to police.

The first incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. Sunday on Bear Avenue, near Martha Escutia Primary Center in Bell, police said. Less than an hour later, the second shooting happened on Live Oak Street in Cudahy, outside Ellen Ochoa Learning Center, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene, police said, and there were no known suspects immediately following the shootings.

Martha Escutia’s campus was closed Monday due to the investigation, according to the Los Angeles Times, which reported students were routed to Corona Avenue Elementary School and mental health aid was available. Students at Ellen Ochoa were routed through a specific entrance, the Times reported.
