The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Los Angeles.

Hey, everybody; today is Father’s Day, which had an uphill battle getting recognized until President Nixon made it a national holiday in 1972. I'm back in your inbox this morning with everything you need to know about what's happening in town today. Let's have at it.
Why did a man dance naked on a police cruiser at 7:11 a.m.? Also, ongoing ballot counting affects some races. Finally, there’ll be a fireworks buyback on July 2.

📢 Fireworks Poll!
Fireworks are illegal in the City of Los Angeles. Scofflaws may be fined $500, $1,000, or more. How do you feel about that? Please let me know your thoughts! (As of today, 77% don’t want fireworks, 17.6% want “safe and sane fireworks,” 4.1% want to choose what to buy, and another 1.4% don’t care one way or the other.)
Here are the top five stories in Los Angeles today:
- A naked man vandalized a police cruiser Friday morning near Hollywood Boulevard and Argyle Avenue. At around 7:11 a.m., the man climbed on top of the cruiser and began dancing. He then kicked out the car’s back window. He has been arrested for vandalism. (KTLA)
- They’re still counting ballots. As of Friday, Eunisses Hernandez looks like the winner over Gil Cedillo in City Council District 1 (CD1) with a “2,019-vote lead.” Karen Bass now leads Rick Caruso, 42.87% to 36.33%. City Attorney contender Faisal Gill has a 23.89% portion of votes, but second place is up for grabs. Right now, Marina Torres leads at 19.94%, which is just 173 votes ahead of Hydee Feldstein Soto. (KFI)
- City Attorney Mike Feuer warned on Thursday that “the risk of devastating, quickly spreading fires sparked by fireworks is severe this year.” His office has been working with social marketplaces to remove the sales ad for the illegal fireworks. If you bought some but realized that breaking the law could have far-reaching consequences, there will be fireworks buyback “July 2 at Brand Park in Mission Hills. LAPD will also accept fireworks without penalty.” (LA City Attorney)
- Gas prices are going down! We learned Saturday that “the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Saturday for the fifth time in the last six days.” Thanks for the 60-cent drop of wholesale gasoline in L.A. However, the nationwide gas average is $4.989. (NBC)
- Mark your calendars! The Reggae Fest is coming to the Globe Theatre on June 26. Running from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m., the party spreads over three floors. (Do LA)
