No Charges Filed Against Man Arrested In Beating Of Elderly Woman

A man arrested in connection to a random beating of a grandmother in Koreatown will be released from custody without charges filed.

LOS ANGELES, CA – The investigation was continuing Friday into an attack in Koreatown that left an octogenarian grandmother with severe facial injuries, and a man who had been arrested was later released.

Richard Colomo, 41, of Los Angeles, was arrested about 1 p.m. Tuesday on suspicion of felony battery and was held on $105,000 bail until his release about 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Colomo was arrested after police released surveillance photos taken near the scene of the 2 p.m. Saturday attack around Olympic Boulevard and Vermont Avenue as the woman was walking in the area.

Police said Colomo was seen on the surveillance video -- taken from a nearby smoke shop -- running from the location.

Paul Eakins, a spokesman for the District Attorney's Office, told City News Service prosecutors have asked for further investigation in the case, meaning no charges would be immediately filed against Colomo.

A Los Angeles police spokeswoman said there had been no further arrest as of mid-morning Friday, and the investigation was continuing.

The victim's granddaughter, Yujin Audrey Ko, posted a graphic photo of her injured grandmother on her Facebook page on Sunday, showing the 85-year- old woman with a gash on her forehead, two black eyes swollen shut and the top of her head bandaged.

"There seemed to be no motive as he (the attacker) had no relation to her nor did he take any of her belongings," Ko wrote. "... Luckily, she was released and should be making a full recovery. She told me to let this go because she wants to forgive the man that did this but I can not and I am livid."

Ko said her grandmother will turn 86 this week.
