🍪 Holiday Treats Poll! 🎄
December is the month for holiday treats and goodies. Which is your favorite? So far, 38.3% love See’s Candies, while 13.3% look forward to sugar cookies. Peppermint bark appeals to 6.7%, and eggnog has a loyal following of 36.7%. Poached pears, King Cake, and fruit cake are favorites for 1.7% each.
📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:
1) What will happen to the famous mountain lion P-22? We've reported a couple of attacks on leashed dogs that he appears to have been involved in. On Saturday, there were reports that the National Wildlife Federation intends to capture P-22 because of his changes in behavior. “A determination will then be made as to next steps.” While nobody expands on what these steps might include, officials do caution “the public not to attempt to help in the capture and evaluation.” (Deadline)
2) City Council member Kevin de León isn’t having a good year. Embroiled in the scandal sparked by leaked recordings of racist rants, he is now accused of being able to add assault to the list. Friday’s Christmas tree lighting event in the 3500 block of Valley Boulevard reportedly devolved into a fight. The politician is alleged to have assaulted a local organizer. The council member recalls the event differently: “This evening, a staff member, volunteer, and I were violently and physically assaulted by self-proclaimed activists at a community holiday event,” he said. (Fox)
3) The latest brush fire was on Friday at 3:30 a.m. at 2580 Cahuenga Boulevard. Unlike with so many other brush fires, arson investigators detained a suspect. “There were no injuries, evacuations or structures threatened in the fire.” (Patch)
4) If you plan on spending any time at the beach, watch out for slides. On Friday, a landslide was reported “along the Palos Verdes Estates coast adjacent to Torrance Beach.” It pushed a work truck some 30 feet. Experts will now evaluate conditions for safety and the possibility of losing structures on the cliffs. "When the rock pulls away, the cliff behind is going to expand some, it's going to fracture more, it weakens, and it's very typical after a big landslide, to have a lot more landslides follow it," a geologist warned. And the anticipated rain is not helping. (CBS)
5) If you celebrate Chanukah, mark your calendars! A children’s pre-Chanukah party isat the Silver Lake Library on Tuesday. Starting at 4:15 p.m., kids can paint their own menorah and decorate donuts. (Jewish Silver Lake)
