Women's Pro Soccer Team Coming To Los Angeles
An ownership group including Serena Williams and Natalie Portman is behind an NWSL expansion (nicknamed "Angel City") coming to LA in 2022.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A star-studded, majority female ownership group drawn from the ranks of Hollywood, tech and the U.S. women's national soccer team are behind a new effort to bring a professional women's soccer team to Los Angeles in 2022.
Announced Tuesday, the ownership group includes actresses Natalie Portman, Uzo Aduba, Jessica Chastain, America Ferrera, Jennifer Garner and Eva Longoria.
The group also features tennis superstar Serena Williams and her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian; venture capitalist Kara Nortman, Netflix VP of original content Cindy Holland, and entrepreneur Julie Uhrman; as well as 14 former members of the USWNT, including Abby Wambach, Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, and Lauren Holiday.

While the team and "venue partner" has yet to the be named, the announcement noted that the ownership group "formally coined itself 'Angel City' in honor of its planned home in Los Angeles."

In a statement, Natalie Portman said, "I thrilled by the opportunity to partner with this incredible group of people to bring a professional women’s soccer team to Los Angeles.
