🌱 Rainbow Halo At Pacific & Rose + Councilman Koretz' Cannabis Emblem

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Los Angeles.

(Patch Media)

Morning, Los Angeles; today is Silence the Shame Day, which was first established by the Hip-Hop Professional Foundation in 2017! Here's everything you need to know to get this Thursday started off right.

Another hit-and-run victim is remembered in Venice. Also, the City Council is looking for ways to make the identification of legit cannabis stores easier. Finally, why did a young man rush the stage to attack Dave Chappelle?

Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:

  1. Did you know that the city puts up rainbow halos “to mark locations where victims of traffic violence were slain?” The latest one went up on Wednesday to remember a 22-year-old hit-and-run victim who was killed at Pacific and Rose avenues. (Streets Blog LA)
  2. Councilman Paul Koretz wants to end “unlicensed commercial cannabis activity” by making it easier to identify members of the “legal commercial cannabis industry.” He introduced a motion on Wednesday that would create the “the County of Los Angeles’ Emblem Program for Authorized Cannabis Stores.” (My News LA)
  3. Why did a 23-year-old man attack Dave Chappelle on stage at the Hollywood Bowl during a Tuesday performance? "Was (it) a trans man," as Chappelle joked? Other than the assailant, nobody was hurt. (NPR)
  4. Have you always wanted to own your own home, but you couldn’t come up with the 10% down payment? We learned Tuesday that the state launched California's Forgivable Equity Builder Loan. If you’re a first-time homebuyer and meet income qualifications, it is possible to “borrow up to 10% of a home’s purchase price, and have the debt forgiven if the buyer lives in the home for five years.” (Fox LA)
  5. If you’re celebrating the Battle of Puebla’s anniversary today, L.A.’s Danny Trejo has some ideas. For example, you might head to Trejo's Tacos, where “new cocktails and dishes will be served as part of Trejo's Tacos' Cinco de Mayo menu.” Head over to the Farmers’ Market location at 6333 West 3rd Street.
