🦃 Thanksgiving Poll!
Thanksgiving is on November 24th. How do you celebrate? So far, 43.9% celebrate a big meal as a family tradition, while 30.3% don’t celebrate and treat it like any other day. In a smaller group, 1.5% don’t celebrate because they feel it glorifies the conquest of Native Americans; however, 24.2% choose to celebrate a traditional Thanksgiving out of gratitude.
📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:
1) We learned on Friday that Dagny Corcoran has died at the age of 77. Corcoran was a “a longtime fixture of the Los Angeles art scene,” where she most recently acted in the role of director of books at the Marian Goodman Gallery. In addition, she founded Art Catalogues, an independent bookstore “specialising in current and out-of-print exhibition catalogues and publications on modern art, architecture and photography.” (The Art Newspaper)
2) The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to a structure fire on Friday. They were called to 989 South St Andrews Place, where they found “a previously burned home with heavy fire showing.” Seventy firefighters spent an hour to knock down the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. (LAFD)
3) The MICHELIN Guide restaurant selection is a who’s who of the “most unique and exciting places.” Several Los Angeles restaurants will be added in a December 5 celebration at the Petersen Automotive Museum. These restaurants are asterid by Ray Garcia, Caboco, Camphor, Damian, Hatchet Hall, Kinn, Kodō, LA Cha Cha Chá, Meteora, Pizzeria Bianco, Saffy’s, San Laurel, Sushi Kaneyoshi, Yangban Society, and the Yunomi Handroll Bar. (Michelin Media)
4) Two “models and social media influencers” claim they were denied entry to a Hollywood club “because of their body size.” We learned on Friday that a bouncer denied them entry while letting other people in their party go inside. The bouncer allegedly “looked her up and down and said, ‘Not tonight.’” They went to Instagram to talk about the experience and “received thousands of messages from other plus-sized women sharing similar stories of being turned away from bars and nightclubs.” The club’s management team has taken action and “removed this individual from the door effective immediately.” (KTLA)
5) Former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger spent Veterans Day at the West LA VA. “He hosted a BBQ, took countless selfies and even cut some hair.” Schwarzenegger has a history of supporting veterans. He had previously donated 25 tiny shelters for the nonprofit Village for Vets. “I look at each one of their faces and say, I’m standing in front of a very, very courageous person. Man or woman alike…they fought for our country. They fought for our freedom, Schwarzenegger stated.” (Fox)
