Here are the top five stories in Los Angeles today:

  1. The LAPD responded to an armed robbery at Beverly and La Cienega boulevards after 1 p.m. on Thursday. “A gunman had robbed a person of their watch outside a nearby hotel.” They located the suspect and chased him through the Beverly Shopping Center and finally the parking structure on San Vicente Boulevard, where officers made an arrest a little before 2 p.m. (Patch)
  2. LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho recommends postponement of the District’s COVID-19 student vaccine mandate until July 2023. The School Board will vote on the recommendation on May 10. The superintendent’s announcement does not affect employee vaccination requirements. (L.A. Daily News)
  3. Last Sunday, the LAFD responded to reports of what appeared to be a brush fire “alongside the southbound Golden State (I-5) Freeway at Sunland Boulevard.” Once there, they realized the flames were near a homeless encampment and were challenging to extinguish, consuming “vegetation and debris.” They extinguished the fire, and there were no injuries. (LAFD)
  4. We learned Thursday that musician Betty Moon is still trying to sell movie star Cary Grant’s 1934 home. Listed last June for $8,995,000, the price has gone up to $9,399,999. (American Luxury)
  5. If you’ve been hesitating to take your child to a toy store, you might change your mind once you head to Camp at the Westfield Century City Mall. In addition to all the shelves and products you anticipate, there is a “a miniaturized RV, camping lodge with bunk beds and a perennial kid favorite: places to make a mess with paint and prefab slime.” Opening this past weekend, it is billed as a family experience rather than just a retail location.
