📢 Fireworks Poll!
Fireworks are illegal in the City of Los Angeles. Scofflaws may be fined $500, $1,000, or more. How do you feel about that? Please let me know your thoughts! (As of today, 75% don’t want fireworks, 18.3% want “safe and sane fireworks,” 5% want to choose what to buy, and another 1.7% don’t care one way or the other.)
Here are the top five stories in Los Angeles today:
- The Roller Rink on Sunset is back! It opened last Friday and will remain in place until August 27. If you want to remember the 1980s in their glory, be there after 2 p.m. on any day. Of course, if you show up on Saturdays, there’ll be a DJ! (Fox)
- Councilman Joe Buscaino looked across the City line to neighboring Long Beach and drafted an ordinance that “would prevent people from either assembling or disassembling their bicycles on public sidewalks.” Passed tentatively by the City Council on Tuesday, 11 to 3, the goal is to cut down on "bicycle chop shops" and bicycle theft. Councilmembers will put it to a vote again next week. (CBS)
- If you have household hazardous waste and e-waste cluttering up the garage, carport, or other storage area, you can get rid of them on June 25. The County will run a roundup at the Wende Museum from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (City of Culver City)
- Will the city’s transportation problems be over in 2026? We learned on Wednesday that Urban Movement Labs and Overair believe they will have “a fleet of all-electric, vertical-takeoff taxis that will ferry passengers and cargo across the skies of Southern California.” They might travel up to 100 miles at a speed of up to 200 mph. (Mass Transit Mag)
- Mark your calendars! The Cinespia events are on the calendar! Starting this Saturday with Aliens at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery and ending July 30 with Hitchcock’s The Birds, a couple of events also take place at the LA Historic Park. There are going to be some fireworks, too, and you’ll need to buy tickets. (Cinespia)

- Sheriff Alex Villanueva and El Monte Police Department Captain Ben Lowry provide an update on an officer involved shooting investigation. (Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department via Facebook)
- Although your property may have been inspected & passed annual brush clearance for 2022, it remains a year-round responsibility. Firefighters need that defensible space that you can provide by properly keeping your vegetation in compliance. (LAFD via Instagram)
- Thank you YWCAGLA for recognizing LA Schools and more than 400 of the women employees at the Phenomenal Woman Award Celebration honoring our “unsung sheroes,” first responders and essential workers. (Los Angeles Unified via Instagram)
- A Hollywood Hills East neighbor is wondering if anyone has received a citation from the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority for not completely stopping at one of their stop signs? If so, were you able to successfully contest your citation? (Nextdoor)
- Our Bel Air Hills neighbor is looking for a housekeeper 2x/week. Hours/days flexible. Must have car and speak a little English. Must like dogs (there are 2 sixty-pound, very sweet goofballs at the house). (Nextdoor)
