📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:
1) We learned on Monday that a sexual assault took place in the 17000 block of Mulholland Drive on November 21. The attack happened around noon and occurred on a hiking trail. The assailant is “a white or Hispanic male in his 30s with a two-inch scar on his right forearm” who used a knife during the attack. (KTLA)
2) Last week, on Thursday, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) respond to a structure fire in the 2100 block of South Malcolm Avenue. A detached garage and nearby carport were consumed by the flames before 24 firefighters could put out the fire. “Firefighters saved one canine from the burning building. No reported injuries.” (LAFD)
3) On Sunday, Vice President Kamala Harris will swear in Mayor-elect Karen Bass at 11:30 a.m. The ceremony takes place in front of City Hall’s Spring Street entrance. Prepare yourself for street closures, heightened security, and the usual circus that plays out when a VP is in town. (Fox)
4) Gaw Capital filed plans with the Los Angeles City Planning Department to develop two properties. We learned on Monday that these are “a 119,900-square-foot, 160-unit apartment complex at 3200 North Figueroa Street” and a “106,800-square-foot self-storage facility at 3220 North Figueroa Street.” The Hong Kong firm intends to level the ice cream storage facility currently there. Prior plans for this area involved a “170-unit live-work residential complex with 35,400 square feet of retail space,” office space and production space. (The Real Deal)
5) Mark your calendars! The Los Angeles Convention Center will host the Ski Dazzle Winter Expo and sales event. The event begins this Friday and runs through Sunday. It is billed as “So Cal’s Only Ski & Snowboard Expo!” (L.A. Convention Center)
