The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Los Angeles.

(Patch Media)

Hey, Los Angeles; today is World Jump Day, which was created by Torsten Lauschmann in 2006 as a means to change Earth’s orbit and reduce global warming. I'm here in your inbox this morning to tell you everything you need to know about what's going on in town.

A verbal altercation results in gunfire near San Pedro and 28th. Also, street takeovers are already taking place on the new Sixth Street Bridge. Finally, a man who used to show up on some "90 Day Fiancé" episodes is wanted by the U.S. Marshals.

Here are the top five stories in Los Angeles today:

  1. There was a shooting Monday night at about 11:30 p.m. The LAPD responded to the “intersection of San Pedro and East 28th streets.” A 40-year-old man was shot from a passing car. The victim “told police he had been in a verbal dispute with the driver prior to the shooting.” (KTLA)
  2. “If you build it, he will come.” However, “he” is “they,” and the baseball diamond of the movie is the Sixth Street bridge. We learned on Tuesday that during the first week after its opening, there are “tire marks from car stunts . . . after incidents over the weekend.” One street takeover on Monday evening resulted in a three-car-crash. So far, there are no reports of arrests. (ABC)
  3. If "90 Day Fiancé" is one of your guilty pleasures, you may know the man whom U.S. Marshals officials are now looking for. A Monday report identifies a 43-year-old barber who “is accused of shooting and killing” a former employer in 2021. He is “also wanted on warrants out of Pennsylvania for separate charges of aggravated assault, strangulation, fleeing and eluding, and state parole violations from a prior aggravated assault conviction.” There is a $39,000 reward. (CBS)
  4. Don’t count on your neighbor to turn a blind eye to your water wasting. According to Monday’s report, “the city's MyLA311 system received 1,643 reports about water waste or people violating irrigation rules in the first half of the year.” Besides that, “the Department of Water and Power's separate online portal for customers to file complaints has also seen a spike, receiving 672 such complaints between June 1 and June 14.” (Patch)
  5. Right now, the Melrose Hill area is not that much to look at. However, significant investment is slated to turn the area “into a hive of art galleries, indie retailers and inventive nightlife.” Already, “workout spot Vitru, high-design showroom Sized and a pair of Manhattan-based galleries, Sargent’s Daughters and Shrine” are on board. Yet, as of Monday, the area around Melrose and Western “remains the site of conspicuous sex solicitation in the morning hours.” (The Hollywood Reporter)
