LOS ANGELES, CA — A wild high-speed police chase tore through Downtown Los Angeles Tuesday evening, causing a series of crashes before coming to an end near a Westlake elementary school.

At least two people were taken into custody, but authorities may be searching for additional occupants of the vehicle who fled the scene on foot. The chase began with Los Angeles Police Department officers responding to reports of a shooting in the Downtown area Tuesday afternoon.

At one point, police SUVs backed off from the chase as the driver wound through busy streets sometimes on the wrong side of the road while sideswiping other vehicles.

Arial Broadcast footage by Fox11 News showed four suspects flee from the still-moving vehicle and run toward the elementary school following the crash.
