Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:

  1. On Friday morning, a man pointed a gun at construction workers near Beverly Boulevard and North La Brea Avenue. He then pointed the weapon at pedestrians and cars. The LAPD responded, and the man shot at the cops. They returned gunfire and arrested the suspect on Detroit Street. (Fox)
  2. Los Angeles is among the Western host cities for the 2026 World Cup. FIFA made the announcement on Thursday and officially gave SoFi Stadium in Inglewood the nod. Insiders note that the venue “may need pricey renovations to create a wider field.” (Fox)
  3. The California Nurses Association announced on Friday that “a thousand nurses at Kaiser Permanente’s Los Angeles Medical Center are planning to strike for one day on Thursday, June 23.” Ongoing contract negotiations were begun in September and still have not led to a resolution. One of the sticking points is the nurses’ demand for “adequate supplies and enough ancillary staff.” (Healthcare Dive)
  4. If you ride the Silver Streak west to L.A., listen up! Because of ongoing construction in Baldwin Park, there are some route changes in effect until 4 a.m. on Monday. “Expect delays. The stop at 10 Freeway and Puente Ave will close. Use a stop at Pacific Avenue and Puente Avenue.” (Foothill Transit)
  5. Mark your calendars! KCON announced on Thursday that its lineup will include “K-pop acts Cravity, Enhyphen, Itzy, Nmixx, Stayc, the Boyz and WJSN.” The event is scheduled for August 19 through 21st at the Crypto.com Arena. (Variety)
