🤔 Homelessness Poll!
CNN reports that Los Angeles County has a homeless population of “more than 66,400 people.” The numbers are increasing. Do you think that city governments are doing enough? Are there better solutions? Please let me know your thoughts! So far, 33.3% favor more infrastructure investment, 21% want federal involvement, 1.9% say faith-based groups need to step up, 6.7% want the military to open its bases, and 34.3% ask for justice system involvement.
📰 Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:
1) Early Saturday morning, thieves crashed a car “through the front of the Beverly Hills Neiman Marcus store” at 9700 Wilshire Boulevard. Within the three minutes that it took the cops to get there, they had grabbed what they could and fled in another car. If you know anything, the Beverly Hills PD would like you to drop a dime to 310-550-4951. (Patch)
2) A shoutout to Tim Ratcliff, the owner of Shin! We learned on Monday that when he saw “a person sucker punch an elderly man” and run off with the man’s wallet and phone, he didn’t hesitate but tackle the robber. The take-down took place at La Brea and Hollywood. It took the cops nine minutes to take the suspect off the business owner’s hands. “A lot of people like myself are tired of this type of thing happening. ... We're seeing more and more people just not putting up with it and taking it into their own hands… which I'm glad for… and I'd happily do it again,” he said. (Fox, CBS)
3) Although there have been no reports of illness, we learned on Monday that King’s Hawaiian is recalling “pretzel slider buns, pretzel hamburger buns and pretzel bites.” One of the company’s vendors just announced the recall of an ingredient used by King’s Hawaiian. “The company will resume production of the products after making sure all current product has been disposed of and has confirmed the safety of all ingredients.” (KTLA)
4) Ninth District Councilman Curren D. Price, Jr. hosted a neighborhood cleanup this last weekend. Team Price focused on the area “around the Pueblo del Rio public housing community.” If you would like to get involved inf future neighborhood cleanups, please connect with his office at 323-846-2651. (Curren D. Price, Jr.)
5) Mark your calendars! Wednesday is Hamburger Mary's Drag Queen Bingo and Wags & Walks! It starts at 7 p.m. and Hamburger Mary's accepts reservations. This WeHo charity event supports rescue pups. (Wags and Walks)
