📰 Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:

1) The LAFD responded to a fire Wednesday at 231 North Westlake Avenue. The blaze erupted in a duplex around 4:25 a.m. “This is a vacant structure and there was a partial roof collapse.” It took 34 firefighters around 27 minutes to extinguish the flames. There were no injuries. (LAFD)

2) The LAPD announced the arrest of a 31-year-old Oakland man last Wednesday. “He has since been brought back to Los Angeles and charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office with six counts of felony robberies.” His involvement is suspected in the shooting on Melrose and Fairfax; and robberies at a gas station, a Pico Boulevard parking lot, at a West 3rd Street restaurant, a Melrose Avenue jewelry store, and a clothing store. The suspect “is being held without bail, and police say he was wanted for a parole violation and had an active warrant since June 2021.” (CBS)

3) The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted on Tuesday to “end pandemic-era tenant protections at the end of the year.” There will be no further extensions after December 31. Critics, including Supervisors Sheila Kuehl and Hilda Solis, believe that it is too early to “commit to ending all pandemic tenant protections.” Supporters of the vote say that “the economy has recovered, COVID-19 vaccines are available and most other pandemic restrictions have relaxed.” (LAist)

4) As of Wednesday, the LAPD prevented or ended 705 street takeovers in 2022. “Police have issued 674 citations and impounded 457 vehicles during street racing events, which are increases of 63% and 27%, respectively, from last year.” Chief Michel Moore intends to ask the mayor to toughen penalties for those involved in the takeovers. “The proposals could include implementing a 30-day impound of vehicles involved in street racing with no waiver, driver's license suspensions, points added to DMV records and potential forfeiture of vehicles for repeat offenders.” (ABC)

5) Who serves the best table side guacamole in Los Angeles? According to a Wednesday report, the El Paseo Inn at 11 East Olvera Street is the restaurant to visit. There is only one eatery that even comes close: “Sol Y Luna at 19601 Ventura Boulevard in Tarzana.” (KTLA)
