Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:
- The Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at Griffith Park on Tuesday a little after 12:30 p.m. There, they found a body hanging from a tree near the venue’s Merry Go Round. It was likely a suicide. [If you or someone you know is feeling suicidal, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255 for English and 888-628-9454 or by dialing 988. Readers can also visit their website. California provides a youth crisis line at 800-843-5200 and on their website. Visit the Los Angeles County Public Health Department's website for a more extensive list of support options.] (Patch)
- Tuesday’s vote on a homeless encampment ban “at libraries, freeway overpasses and other locations” was once more interrupted by activists. One climbed over furniture and charged toward the council president. Another tried to spray a liquid from a bottle on responding police officers. “Shortly after 11 a.m., an LAPD captain declared an unlawful assembly within the chamber, prompting scores of protesters to file out.” (Rocked Buzz)
- On Thursday, the LAPD served a search warrant on a home “located in the 3300 block of Arlington Avenue.” Inside, they found “firearms, ammunition, high-capacity magazines, money and fraudulent credit/debit cards.” Two 31-year-old suspects were booked as “felon in possession of a firearm.” Each has a $35,000 bail. (LAPD)
- Residents are leveraging the buying power of the dollar in neighboring Tijuana. A Tuesday report revealed that market managers “noticed a 20 to 30-percent rise in clients from the United States Monday through Friday.” “Everything is less expensive,” a customer explained. “We can also go to dinner with the family, and it’s cheaper, buying everything at this market is less expensive.” (Fox)
- The Los Angeles Sparks got caught up in the travel woes that many residents are currently encountering. On Sunday night, “half of the team was forced to sleep overnight in the airport following the Sparks' 79-76 win over the Washington Mystics.” A canceled flight and a lack of hotel rooms required several players to make the best of their situation.
