Beginning October 6, and continuing through October 10, every registered voter is mailed a ‘Vote By Mail’ ballot. How are you planning to vote this November? Please let us know! So far, 20.6% plan to vote in person on election day, 65.4% will be voting by mail, 11.2% intend to vote early in person, and 2.8% plan to sit this one out.
📰 Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:
1) Karen Bass burglary update: We learned on Thursday that the PD arrested two men who are suspects in the burglary of mayoral candidate Karen Bass. The suspects, one aged 24 and the other 42, “were arrested on burglary charges after being stopped in a car seen driving away from the residence.” The older suspect is held on a $600,000 bail while the younger man “was held without bail.” (NY Post)
2) Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide investigators reported Thursday that there was a deadly shooting of an adult male “near the area of Lou Dillon Avenue and 76th Place.” A female victim received a non-fatal gunshot wound. (Nixle)
3) The LAFD responded to 1536 East 102nd Street at around 6:50 a.m. on Thursday. They found a “one-story commercial building, approximately 75 feet by 100 feet, with smoke showing.” There were no surrounding buildings exposed. (LAFD)
4) Anglophiles who want to pay their respects to HRH Queen Elizabeth II, will have an opportunity to do so today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The UK Consulate at 2029 Century Park East will “keep its book of condolence open” during this time. There is no roadside parking, but you can park underneath the building. (UK in LA)
5) Mark your calendars! Reimagine’s Loss, Life,& Love Festival is coming to Leimert Park on September 22. It is an event that will be live-streamed and available in person. “For three days, we will connect to local wisdom and to one another around the intersection of pain and purpose, so that we might experience what grassroots transformation and healing can feel like — for ourselves, our communities and the world.” Opening Night begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center.
