Teen Cyclist Killed In Suspected Road Rage At BMO Stadium

A driver followed a group of cyclists into the stadium's parking and accelerated toward the bicyclists, striking and killing a 16-year-old.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A 16-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by a car in a parking lot of BMO Stadium Friday in a possible road rage incident.

The bicyclist was struck around 4:36 p.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service.

According to KCAL 9, around 40 bicyclists riding south on Figueroa Street entered the stadium's closed parking lot and the motorist driving a sedan followed them inside, accelerated toward the bicyclists, struck the victim and sped away from the lot.

The sedan driver and the bicycle riders allegedly had a verbal confrontation prior to the fatal collision, according to police.

``It's a tragic incident and 100% preventable, avoidable. It should have never happened," CHP Sgt. Dan Kene said at a news conference at the scene after the collision.

CBS 2 said there were several witnesses to the collision and CHP plans to interview anyone who witnessed it.

There was no immediate description of the vehicle or the driver who struck the teen, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

``We urge that driver to come to a CHP station and talk to us," Kene said. ``Tell us what happened. No parent should have to go through that."
