Tokyo Hot Chicken Spices Up Take Out at Americana

James Beard Award-winning chef Michael Mina has added hot chicken to his worldwide restaurant empire.

Tokyo Hot Chicken, Mina’s newest takeout/delivery endeavor, can be found at the back entrance of Bourbon Steak at The Americana at Brand in Glendale.

Combining Japanese and Nashville flavors, Mina’s chicken is crusted with a panko breadcrumbs and flour mixture that unite to form juicy, hot, crunchy, tender and golden fried chicken. Guests can opt for a four, eight or twelve piece box of wings, drums and thighs; tenders or sliders with spicy mayonnaise and a kimchi slaw.

The chicken and mocha-matcha waffle with yuzu honey is a standout and my favorite dish. Diners can also order chicken tenders with a waffle, ginger soy marinated chicken bites and a classic cheddar cheese topped with chicken bites.

Sides include wasabi mashed potatoes, red miso corn, sesame broccoli, cheddar mac and cheese, Tokyo duck fat fries and furikake rice. There are also wonderful Togarashi Hawaiian rolls.

Delicious dipping sauces ranging and seasonings with varying heat levels include a yum yum sauce, sweet miso bbq, chili vinegar, yuzu kosho honey, Gochujang and a sriracha mayo.

Desserts include a chocolate brownie cake with peanut butter ganache, Nilla wafer pudding with banana and an apple tart.
