📰 Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:

  1. On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) headed to 149 South St. Andrews Place in Koreatown for a structure fire. When they arrived, they found a “two story, garden style apartment building with fire showing from one unit on the first floor.” Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the unit of origin. An elderly occupant was evaluated for medical conditions. (LAFD)
  2. We learned on Wednesday that Topanga Elementary School remains closed. With a nod to poor weather conditions, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) rerouted “students to Canyon Charter Elementary School at 412 Entrada Drive in Santa Monica.” Topanga Elementary School stays closed “until further notice.” (LAUSD)
  3. Actor Michael B. Jordan is looking to sell his Royal Oaks home in Encino for around $13 million. We learned on Wednesday that the actor bought the 2021 property about a year ago for $12.5 million. What do you get for this kind of money? Reportedly “12,300 square feet of glam contemporary living space” with an elevator, a soundproof movie theater, eight bedrooms, a “two-story guesthouse and separate structure currently used for massages.” (The Hollywood Reporter)
  4. If you’re a firm believer in buying your lottery tickets from “lucky” stores, head to Park’s Liquor at 7th and Clark avenues in Hacienda Heights. There, clerks sold a “ticket worth nearly $4 million” on Tuesday. Even so, for Friday’s drawing, the “Mega Millions jackpot is now worth an estimated $1.35 billion.” (NBC)
  5. L.A. is getting more Indian food! Baar Baar will open in March at 705 West 9th Street, which used to house Faith & Flower before it closed in 2021 during the pandemic. One of the managing partners “says that she wants to keep the same freewheeling sense of fun as the previous operator, but with food from Sarkar, one of India’s most celebrated chefs.” (L.A. Eater)
