The LAFD knocked down a blaze on Wednesday. Also, thanks in part to the Clippers, the Obama Sports Complex could open. Finally, in fact, the Clippers fulfilled a 2018 pledge to the City!

💧 Water Crisis Poll! 💧
Residents are limited to watering their landscapes two days per week, before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m. What else should the City do to deal with the water crisis? Please let me know your thoughts! So far, 25% want to mandate drought-resistant landscaping, 33.3% want to recycle wastewater for irrigation, another 25% want to build a desalination plant at the coast, and 16.7% don’t believe residential water use contributes to the water crisis.
Here are the top five stories in Los Angeles today:
- There was a fire on Wednesday at 646 N Sierra Bonita Avenue. A tree was on fire. The blaze then grew to include a “one-story detached garage.” Nobody was hurt, and it took 40 LAFD experts only 19 minutes to deal with the blaze. (LAFD)
- Mayor Eric Garcetti was on hand Tuesday for the grand opening of the Michelle and Barack Obama Sports Complex, formerly known as the Rancho Cienega Sports Complex. “There's an abundance of activities here for everyone — including refurbished courts thanks to the L.A. Clippers who have invested in our parks across L.A.” (Mayor of LA)
- Speaking of which, the Clippers pledged in 2018 to “renovate all Los Angeles area basketball courts.” The court at the Obama Sports Complex was the last of the 350 L.A. courts that needed some attention. “The city of L.A.'s population is almost 4 (million) people, and 98% of them live within two miles of a Clippers Community Court,” the team’s owner explained. (USA Today)
- The Trans Chorus of Los Angeles has been singing together since 2015. Taking its inspiration from “Glee,” it “celebrates diversity and acceptance so that others can see and feel the joy they share through music.” We learned on Wednesday that the singers will perform on July 10 at the Renberg Theatre. (ABC)
- Mark your calendars! If you bought some illegal fireworks but now want to get rid of them, head to Brand Park on Saturday. The city will host a fireworks buyback event, and “those who turn in illegal fireworks will receive a free gift card.” Nobody will ask you for ID. (Fox)
