Unclaimed $3 Million-Winning Lottery Ticket Sold In LA About To Expire
You might want to double-check any lottery tickets you may have lying around.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Imagine winning millions of bucks in the lottery only to find out that your ticket expired before you could claim your prize. Some lucky (or unlucky?) Angeleno is poised to do just that.
A Mega Millions ticket worth $2,941,708 purchased in Los Angeles is set to expire Friday, and no one has claimed the winnings yet, according to the California lottery. If the winner doesn't come forward with the ticket by 5 p.m. Friday, the money will be forfeited.
The ticket was sold at the SK gas station at 11280 National Boulevard in the Mar Vista area for the Dec. 12 drawing last year. It had five of the six winning numbers — 8, 23, 44, 45, and 53 — just missing the Mega Number 3.

Mega Millions players with winning tickets have 180 days from the date of the draw to
claim their prize.
"If nobody submits a claim by this weekend, the $2.9 million will go to public schools in California in line with the Lottery’s mission," the California Lottery announced. "Anyone with that winning ticket has until 5 p.m. Friday to bring the ticket to one of California Lottery’s nine offices across the state. The claimant can also fill out paperwork found here with the ticket and paperwork postmarked on or before Saturday, June 8. Players can submit their signed claim form, along with the winning ticket, in person, or they can mail the documents to California Lottery Headquarters, 730 North 10th Street, Sacramento, CA 95811."

For the winner who may end up losing out on their $2,941,708, there is some consolation: it could be worse. Someone in Chatsworth holds the record for the largest jackpot to go unclaimed. In 2018, a $63 million SuperLotto Plus jackpot went unclaimed when no one could prove they held the winning ticket.
