The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Los Angeles.

Good morning, people of Los Angeles; today is Peace Officers Memorial Day, which was instituted by President John F. Kennedy in 1962! It's me again, Sylvia, your host of the Los Angeles Daily.
(In the voice of Vin Scully:) It’s time for Dodger voting! Also, why did you get a Glendale emergency message on Saturday? Finally, there was another brush fire.

Poll:
Who should be the next Los Angeles Mayor? Please share your thoughts! (As of today, Rick Caruso leads the pack with 51.9% of your votes, and Karen Bass is in second place with 30.2%. Gina Viola is in third with 5.7%, and Kevin De Leon comes in fourth with 3.8%.)
Here are the top five stories in Los Angeles today:
- The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed “to host a Mobile Vote Center at Dodger Stadium for the 2022 Primary Election,” turning the stadium into a voting center for the second time. “The Mobile Vote Center will be available to all voters on Saturday, May 28 – Opening Day of the voting period – from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Any LA County voter can visit the stadium and cast their ballot, drop off their Vote by Mail ballot, or register to vote.” (MLB)
- If you were awaken by the “Chevy Chase Canyon” emergency notification on Saturday morning, you weren’t alone. Most of L.A. County saw the message and worried. It turns out that the City of Glendale did a drill that was only supposed to go out to a few local residents. Besides that, it took about 20 minutes to follow up the initial message with a second notification that it was only a drill. (KTLA)
- Another day, another brush fire. This one burned on Friday evening in Granada Hills close to the 118 Freeway near Hayvenhurst Avenue. “There is no connection between this fire and another brush fire that burned to the west near Reseda Boulevard.” (NBC)
- On Friday, a Pacoima post office was named for Ritchie Valens, “on what would have been his 81st birthday.” However, as you may remember, the 17-year-old rock ‘n’ roll legend died alongside Buddy Holly in a 1959 plane crash. (KEYT)
- On Saturday morning, the LAFD unveiled its “very first electric fire engine in the nation during Fire Service Day!” If you want to get a closer look, you are invited to visit Fire Station 82 at 5769 West Hollywood Boulevard. (City of L.A.)
