🤔 Homelessness Poll!
CNN reports that Los Angeles County has a homeless population of “more than 66,400 people.” The numbers are increasing. Do you think that city governments are doing enough? Are there better solutions? Please let me know your thoughts! So far, 29.9% favor more infrastructure investment, 19.7% want federal involvement, 1.7% say faith-based groups need to step up, 6% want the military to open its bases, and 40.2% ask for justice system involvement.

Here are the top five stories in Los Angeles today:

1) A partially-clad woman set the 7-Eleven at West Olympic Boulevard and South La Brea Avenue on fire Monday. At around 9:30 p.m., she trashed the store, barricaded herself by piling products in front of the door and then set a fire. An employee sought safety in the store’s back area and needed to be rescued by the fire department. (Patch, NBC)

2) A man was shot Monday evening right around 11 p.m. “in the 100 block of North Canon Drive near Nusr-Et Steakhouse and Spago.” The attack also left a window at the nearby Bank of the West shattered “north of Wilshire Boulevard.” The PD doesn’t believe that this was a random crime. (NBC)

3) Los Angeles has “26 oil and gas fields and over 5,000 oil and gas wells — some active, others idle and some abandoned.” A report explained on Tuesday that the City Planning Department is working on an ordinance draft that prohibits new drilling and phases out existing operations. Critics had expected a draft that would focus on setback directions and were surprised that the department intends to go further. Councilmember Paul Koretz figures that current workers can “have ongoing green jobs cleaning up all these toxic sites for the coming decades.” (Westside Today)

4) If you have $10.2 million, you can own the five-bedroom, six-bathroom so-called “House of Sin” in the Hollywood Hills. Its interior resembles an immersive art gallery and the views are stunning. Besides that, you may already know the 7,500-square-foot home because it has been “a popular location for reality TV and avant-garde fashion shoots, including Kim Kardashian.” (Sacramento Bee)

5) Mark your calendars! NORMS is offering a free order of chicken and waffles on August 24. However, there’s a catch. You need to arrive “dressed as chickens, waffles — or both.” The offer is good from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Patch)
