Los Altos/Los Altos Hills Students Make University Honor Lists

Colby College in Waterville, Maine, announced the following Los Altos and Los Altos Hills students, with 3.67 grade point average or higher, were named to the Dean's List at for their outstanding academic achievement during the fall semester of the 2012-13 year.

• Shelley L. Kind, a senior, of Los Altos Hills, attended Castilleja School
• Eleanor K. Powell, a sophomore, attended Castilleja School
• Lydia G. Vieraitis, a first-year student, and attended Los Altos High School

Maura S. Mahoney of Los Altos earned Dean's List honors at Saint Joseph's University for the Fall 2012 semester. Students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or above to be name to the Dean's List at Saint Joseph's, a 162-year-old Catholic comprehensive university located in Philadelphia, that was named to the 2012 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for General Community Service.

Katherine Corn of Los Altos, has earned a place on the Dean's List for the fall semester of the 2012 academic year at Bard College at Simon's Rock, in Great Barrington, Mass. To be eligible for this honor a student must carry 14 or more credits and achieve a grade point average of 3.5. Corn made the dean's list for her distinguished work overall. Simon's Rock is the only residential college in the country specifically designed to let bright, highly motivated students start college immediately after the 10th or 11th grade.

Matt LaPointe, of Los Altos, a Homestead High School graduate, has earned honor roll distinction for the fall 2012 semester at the University of Kansas. LaPointe, a sophomore at KU, was named to the honor roll for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, in Lawrence, Kan.

Walter Frank Eng of Los Altos, a sophomore College of Arts and Sciences at Creighton University, was named to the fall Dean's List for the 2012-2013 academic year. Full-time students who earn a 3.5 grade-point average or better are eligible for the Dean's Honor Roll. Creighton University, is a Catholic, Jesuit institution in Omaha, Neb. that has been a top-ranked Midwestern university in the college edition of U.S. News & World Report magazine for more than 20 years.

Anne Goodman, of Los Altos, made the Fall 2012 Dean's List at Whittier College. Undergraduate students are awarded Dean's List honors if he or she earns a 3.70 grade point average while completing a full-time course load (12 units) in the fall and spring terms. Founded by Quakers in 1887, Whittier College is an independent, four-year college offering a traditional liberal arts program integrated with both professional and pre-professional courses of study.
