With people not being able to go overseas for the last two years, next year there is going to be a mad rush to go somewhere. My next trip overseas is in January, and my passport needs renewing so I have already sent it off to the passport office for attention.
I was not surprised to read in this mornings San Jose newspaper that people had queued up for ten hours to get a new passport. The office was overwhelmed with the number of people wanting help. The official said that normally it takes 6-8 weeks for a passport application to be taken care of, and it is now taking three times as long. If you require urgent attention, or have emergency travel needs you can request an appointment. Call the National Passport Information Center at 877-487-2778. Cost is $130 plus $35 fee. Rush fee is $60. Your passport must be valid for at least six months after you return from your trip.
Don't delay.
