Useful information from a Scot on where to go for a pint and hear good music

My grandfather gave me a list of priceless information when I was going to university and told me only to share it with good friends. It is a list of good pubs in Scotland and I always gave it to clients when planning a trip there.

In his opinion, the best whiskies are 1. Glenmorganie, 2. Glenfiddich, 3. Glenlivet. Ladies don't drink whisky. The correct thing to order is a shandy, half beer and half lemonade. Never ask for ice.

Gaelic traditional folk music can have a collection of pipes, fiddles and accordions mixed with electric instruments and guitars. Players just show up and take part in playing the traditional jigs and reels. To get a full feel for the pure diversity of styles the Celtic Connections Festival held in Glasgow every January is great to attend.

Everyone should try and go to a Ceilidh, a Scottish dance. My favorite place is the Ceilidh Place in Ullapool. This is a pub with great food, music, and a fun night out. The locals will show you the steps. You should stay in Ullapool before taking the ferry over to the islands of Lewis and Harris.

A great way to meet with the locals.
