Fentanyl Deaths Double In Santa Clara County
May proved to be particularly deadly for fentanyl overdoses in Santa Clara County, more than doubling the total from the month prior.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — Overdose deaths linked to fentanyl doubled at the end of May in Santa Clara County, surging to 41 deaths compared to 17 recorded through April, according to new data.
According to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office, most fentanyl deaths have involved the synthetic opioid mixed with other drugs, including methamphetamine, and officials are renewing warnings of the dangers of fentanyl-laced pills in the community.
Last year, an analysis from the Drug Enforcement Agency lab found six in ten counterfeit prescription pills had a potentially deadly dose of fentanyl. Last year, Santa Clara recorded 161 deaths resulting from fentanyl.
