The town is all decked out in red ribbons in honor of Red Ribbon Week, which raises awareness about alcohol and drug use.
A large sign on the LGHS front lawn says the event is sponsored by the nonprofit Community Against Substance Abuse, or CASA.
Students at LGHS have had assemblies for juniors and seniors with a guest speaker who had used marijuana and alcohol and killed someone while under the influence in a car crash.
Grace, a 16-year-old student at LGHS, said she's happy that the message seems to be spreading among young people about the dangers of alcohol and drug use.
CASA is partnering with parent volunteers to bring Red Ribbon Week to Los Gatos elementary and middle schools, according to its website.
Red Ribbon Week is the largest drug prevention/awareness campaign in the nation, and runs from Oct. 20-26.
The theme this year is “A Healthy Me is Drug Free!”
