Los Gatos High School Students Awarded $2K In Short Film Contest

The students received an honorable mention in the EmPower Silicon Valley Short Film Competition.

LOS GATOS, CA — Three Los Gatos High School students were awarded $2,000 each in scholarships after they received an honorable mention in the EmPower Silicon Valley Short Film Competition, the organization announced on Wednesday.

Om Shastri, Julio Casal and Macha Karpov were recognized for their short film, “Silicon Valley’s Clean Future.”

The competition awarded $3,000 in scholarship prizes to winners who made films in four different categories: Energy impact, energy innovation, creative presentation and community engagement.

Students from across Silicon Valley presented a variety of clean energy futures and solutions to fight climate change.

“We were impressed by the ingenuity and diversity of the submitted films. Representing the next generation, youth make up a core component of the SVCE mission to combat climate change and ensure a clean energy future. The students' visions of this future were inspiring and uplifting,” said Girish Balachandran, the CEO of Silicon Valley Clean Energy.

The films were judged by a panel that included Silicon Valley Clean Energy board members, youth, community leaders and film industry professionals.
