The first engine company that arrived found a significant fire inside the house as well as on the outer left side of the building.
Neighbors told firefighters that an elderly woman who lived there might be inside, but crews who searched the house while fighting the fire found that she was not at home.

The fire spread through the walls into the attic and proved difficult to contain because of the age and construction of the house, Murphy said.
No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
