Man Dies In SR17 When Vehicle Crashes, Overturns Near Los Gatos

The CHP determined the Thursday night crash south of Los Gatos occurred as the driver was traveling at high speed.

LOS GATOS, CA -- A man died in a crash after his car overturned on state Highway 17 in unincorporated Santa Clara County Thursday evening, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The CHP received a 911 call at 5:31 p.m. reporting a driver in a blue Toyota FJ Cruiser was swerving, speeding and unable to stay in his southbound lane. The man was reportedly driving on both shoulders of the highway at a very high speed, and was involved in an accident minutes later at 5:34 p.m. just south of Redwood Estates.

Officers arrived on scene to find the vehicle had driven off the right shoulder and collided with a tree, tearing the vehicle open and causing it to land on its roof. The CHP determined the driver died at the scene.
