An Architect's Life

In A Diehard Profession

The pursuit of architecture has to be the most social of the arts, shaping at it does public and private spaces for human endeavor, be it work, play, or living.

Therefore the architect to be successful beyond being an egotistical practitioner has to be the most haunted as an artist, subduing his or her self-important creativity in the harsh reality of a most competitive profession to become the advocate of the client to meet the myriad needs of the user.

And this in my review of, “Inside Architecture; A Design Journal” Balcony Press” makes the author Scott Johnson's remembrances as the eminent partner in the firm of Johnson Fain for me arresting, as I have written in the heralded national website, Common/Edge..

Beyond relating his polished education and apprentices, Johnson goes into revealing detail recounting the design and development process and remembering the client personalities involved in the guarded packaging of singular projects in L.A. and abroad.

These include a range of office towers, including the noteworthy Fox Plaza Tower that was featured in the film, “Diehard.; and also a range of distinctive and private residences, for his family and others.
