Caltrans Wants Your Input On Proposed PCH Safety Improvements

Officials will soon unveil the PCH Master Plan Feasibility Study, detailing proposed improvements on Malibu's 21 miles of PCH.

MALIBU, CA — Officials are inviting residents to weigh in on proposed improvements to Pacific Coast Highway in an online survey and at three upcoming meetings.

Caltrans will hold the meetings to unveil a draft of the PCH Master Plan Feasibility Study. Centered around 21 miles of PCH in Malibu, the study aims to identify transportation improvements that will address safety concerns, support travel options for pedestrians and bicyclists, and enhance transit.

Caltrans developed the study based on community input from six workshops held in summer 2024, according to officials.

Additionally, the meeting with cover two pavement rehabilitation projects planned for PCH in Malibu, Santa Monica and Los Angeles. The projects include the repair of pavement, upgrading curb ramps, improving lighting at underground pededtrian crossings, installing new sidewalks near bus stops, updating signs, installing some Class II bike lanes, and installing pedestrian warning signs.

Work on the first stretch, between Cross Creek Road and the Los Angeles County/Ventura County line, is expected to begin in summer 2026 and be complete by summer 2028.

Work on the second stretch, between the McClure Tunnel in Santa Monica to just south of Cross Creek Road in Malibu, is expected to begin in summer 2027 and be complete by summer 2029.

An in-person meeting will be held April 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Malibu City Hall.

Virtual meetings will be held April 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. and May 12 from 1 to 3 p.m.

An online survey will be available to offer input on the PCH Master Plan Feasibility study at a future date. More information is available on the Caltrans website.
