The quake struck around 9:33 a.m. and its epicenter appeared to be 3 miles off the coast of Malibu, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake had a depth of about 7.9 miles.
The quake was felt as far away as Camarillo and Monterey Park, according to responses submitted to the U.S. Geological Survey.
