Rock Fire In Malibu Contained; Second Brush Fire This Week

A brush fire Thursday brought firefighters to Malibu for the second time this week. The fire is now contained, officials say.

MALIBU, CA — On Wednesday, LA County firefighters were back battling a brush fire in Malibu. Around 1 p.m., the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported a response to a brush fire at 20790 Rockpoint Way.

No structures were threatened by the brush fire, the department wrote; the fire was described as "running uphill in light to medium brush."

The fire, dubbed the "Rock Fire," was fully contained by about 2:40 p.m, the fire department announced. It covered approximately half an acre.

The Rock Fire ignited less than five miles west of where firefighters battled the 1-acre "Mesa Fire" on Monday.

The Mesa Fire broke out around 3:25 p.m. at the intersection of Carbon Canyon Road and Carbon Mesa Road. It was contained by helicopter and ground crews. No structures were threatened.
