Flash Flood Watch: Powerful Storm Coming To LA County

The flood advisory is in effect through Friday.

LOS ANGELES, CA -- A powerful storm is expected to hit the greater Los Angeles area beginning Wednesday, promoting weather officials to issue a Flash Flood Watch for the area. The National Weather Service said the "large and powerful" storm is expected to last through Friday.

Los Angeles area residents can expect periods of moderate to heavy rain across the region, possibly also bringing flash flooding, and mud and debris flows, according to the National Weather Service.

As of Wednesday morning, the Flash Flood Watch is in effect for recently burned areas although it could be expanded to other parts of the region.

"Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.Southern California residents, in or below the recently burned areas are urged to take the steps necessary to protect their property," the National Weather Service said. "Persons in the watch area should remain alert."

Storm total rainfall is expected to range from 2 to 5 inches across coastal and valley areas, with 5 to locally
10 inches across the foothills and coastal slopes.
