Homeless People In Malibu Decreased During This Year's Count

The number of homeless people living in Malibu during the annual homeless count dropped between 2024 and 2025.

MALIBU, CA — The number of homeless people living in Malibu at the time of the annual homeless count dropped between 2024 and 2025, marking the fourth consecutive year of record low homelessness numbers, city officials announced this week.

There were 33 people experiencing homelessness within the city limits during the annual count, which was conducted earlier this year after the Palisades Fire broke out. That's less than half of the 69 people counted in Malibu in 2024.

The final figure for this year is pending confirmation by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority confirmation, city officials said.

Each year, the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority conducts a "point in time" count of homeless people living in the county, which is meant to offer a snapshot of homelessness on a given night.

Due to post-wildfire safety concerns and the closure of Pacific Coast Highway, this year's count was conducted in Malibu by the city's Homeless Outreach Team and representatives from LAHSA without community volunteers, according to the city.
